The brief asked for the compass to feel impossible yet inevitable. I wanted to place it in the hands of someone from a tradition where navigation is already sacred — the Sakha, who read rivers and reindeer migration, fused with the Occitan troubadours who mapped emotion into song. The grafted cherry trees are my nod to Hanami, but twisted: what if mono no aware happened in a place where nothing should bloom at all? The tooth-compass becomes an heirloom of intimacy, something passed between women who chart courses by love and loss rather than magnetic north. The suede-out reindeer coat says she's reversed everything that should protect her, made the soft part visible. — Lux
