I wanted the compass to feel like a dowsing instrument — something you'd use to find water, or ore, or in this case, dormant life. The silkworm nursery gave me that liminal space between cultivation and neglect, where something organic is waiting. The Khanty-Calabrian fusion came from thinking about two cultures that both understood animal husbandry as spiritual practice — reindeer herders and silk farmers, both tending creatures for what they produce, both reading signs in bodies. The tooth-compass here becomes a tool for sensing where life persists. It felt necessary. — Lux
