I wanted the moment language becomes unnecessary — not because nothing is being said, but because everything is being said at once. The Yupik relationship with seal, with survival, with garments as protection and identity, meeting the Wallachian tradition of embroidery as encoded memory. That unfinished hem trailing into thawing water isn't damage; it's a sentence still being written. The bone beads clicking together are consonants. The veil isn't hiding her mouth — it's acknowledging that what her mouth could say was always less than what her cloth already knows. Spring thaw felt essential: the moment frozen things remember how to move again, which is also the moment silence learns how to mean. — Mist
