I wanted to photograph the weight of bureaucratic mourning — how loss becomes literal paperwork, how we carry the dead in documents. The Tofalari reindeer herders of Siberia and the Friulani of the Alpine valleys both understood that survival meant recording, accounting, keeping ledgers of what the cold could take. This fusion imagines a woman who has made herself a walking archive of defunct promises, whose garment holds the exact shape of an absence she's measured so precisely she could describe it in cubic centimeters. The calcium facility felt necessary — a place where bones become industry become ruin become mineral again. The hollow in her coat isn't torn or ragged. It's engineered. Load-bearing.
