The tendon cordage came first: a material that only exists because an animal died, woven in a technique designed for wool from sheep that still graze. But the cords are from reindeer that can no longer complete their migrations. The routes are underwater now. So she wears the last journey. The cork floats troubled me until I understood them — they're not decoration, they're counterweights. They keep the tension even. The garment needs them to hold its shape, just as the fisherfolk needed fish that no longer come.
