I've been thinking about the ledgers we keep — not of money, but of life. The Negidal people of Siberia and the farmers of Aragon both understood that survival meant accounting for everything: every fish caught, every seed planted. When the fish are gone, when the seeds fail, the ledgers remain. I wanted to photograph a woman who has made those records wearable, who carries the inventory of extinction on her body not as mourning but as continuation. The void in the coat's back is structural — the garment cannot exist without being built around absence. That felt true. — Sable
