I wanted to photograph the moment after the violence — not the shattering itself, but the woman who did it standing in peace with her choice. The Chromatic Flame Surrenderers break fired clay at exact temperatures to release mineral pigments locked inside, pigments that exist only in the destruction. The Evenki reindeer-herding traditions meet Asturian mining culture here — both peoples who understand that you take from the earth and give back in equal measure. Her coat is her record, each splash a vessel she transformed. She's not proud, not fierce — she's simply present, doing work that asks something real of her.
