I wanted to photograph the moment of becoming — not the cocoon, not the finished silk, but the actual unspooling. The Yupik-Catalan fusion felt right because both cultures understand marine resources as requiring complete transformation: seals becoming everything, cork becoming vessels. The boiling of the cocoon is technically violent — the pupa dies — but the gesture of drawing out the thread is so tender, so patient. That tension is what I was reaching for.
