I wanted to photograph the moment after the sacrifice — not the drama of destruction, but the settled certainty that follows it. The Nivkh people of Sakhalin have this extraordinary relationship with transformation through their fishing and textile traditions, while Ligurian silk heritage is all about the delicate made durable. Fusing them around volcanic immolation felt right: the idea that some silk can only be born through burning, that the cocoon must be consumed for the thread to achieve its true strength. She's not mourning what she destroys. She's proud of it. — Lux
