The silver streaks in her black hair and the specimen-vial bandolier mark her as magical scholar archetype, but what she's actually doing is the unglamorous work of arbitration: reading grain quality, checking germination rates, deciding if this farmer's disputed claim holds. Her counterpart isn't decorative — she's the vault keeper who disagrees. I needed noon light, harsh and unforgiving, because that's when these disputes happen. No golden hour romance.
