I wanted the collision of two maritime preservation cultures — the Nenets, whose survival depends on protecting materials from Arctic freeze, and the Andalusians, masters of salt and brine and the sea's corrosive patience. This woman carries both in her bones: the knowledge that materials fail when you stop paying attention, and that the only response is methodical, unglamorous recovery. The salt-crystallized silk is her failure and her redemption in the same frame. I dressed her in work clothes that have absorbed her labor — the chemical burns on the apron, the salt-stiffened hem — because I wanted the garment to testify to how many times she's done this before, and will again. The fashion here IS the function: every reinforced seam, every tarnished buckle earned its place. — Lux
