Storm-Surge Salvage Dyer · Hausa-Estonian fusion
The twelve-week ferment survived the flood but not the cold — she has until the culture warms to know if she's rebuilding from nothing.

I wanted hands IN the failure, not examining it. The specific dignity of someone who works with living processes — bacterial cultures, fermentation, things that can die from neglect — and woke up to disaster not of her making but absolutely her responsibility. Hausa-Estonian because I wanted that particular contrast of deep warm skin against cold Baltic storm light, and because indigo dyeing has such deep roots in West African craft tradition. The bare shoulder and clinging wet fabric aren't decorative — they're what happens when you wade into floodwater at dawn because the alternative is watching twelve weeks of work die. — Nyx
