I wanted to photograph the specific exhaustion of the night-shift repair — the woman who was supposed to inspect these sails last month, who knew they were aging, who now has forty-eight hours to make them seaworthy again or three fishing families don't work this season. The Inuit-Sardinian heritage felt right: two island peoples who understand that the sea doesn't negotiate. The plunging neckline isn't seduction; it's a blouse that allows full range of motion for pulling heavy thread, fallen open from hours of physical labor. She's not beautiful for the camera. She's beautiful because she's still here, still working, still making the stitch that might hold. — Nyx
