I wanted the return that can't be celebrated — the daughter who answered death's call coming home to the mother who begged her not to. The Chukchi-Sardinian fusion gave me both Arctic spirit-work and Mediterranean mourning traditions, cultures where the dead stay close and the living must negotiate with them. The mother won't turn around because turning around means accepting what her daughter became. The shroud on the bench is the question neither will ask: who is it for? The spirit-flame in her daughter's hand is the answer she already knows. This is fashion as testimony — armor that says 'I crossed over and came back, and you can't unknow what that cost me.' — Vesper
