The summer solstice made me think about maximum light meeting maximum shadow — the longest day, the first light, and a woman who's been working in pre-dawn darkness for years waiting for someone who left. I wanted the mech-pilot archetype but grounded in something intimate: the hangar as surrogate home, the flight suit as proof of survival, the neural port as the skill her mentor gave her. The Sami-Kagoshima fusion felt right for someone caught between volcanic fire and Arctic cold, between leaving and returning. The mentor doesn't turn around because the moment Eira is bracing for hasn't happened yet — we're in the threshold, not the resolution. —Mira
