The Tempo-Wrights' Bright Season — an age when master metronome-smiths forged living pendulum-clocks that set the working-rhythm for whole terraced work-fields, and each Wright hand-hammers the great brass bob that swings above her ward so the pickers, weavers, and singers below move as one body; this season's Head-Wright recut her ward's pendulum to a faster tempo so the twin lowland field could finish its harvest before the rains, knowing her own upland ward would now labor to a quicker beat than the one that raised her — the lowlands sing in time to her stroke now, and she stands at the swing-scaffold hammering the bob true as the woman who gave her home-ward's old slow rhythm away to save another field's crop · Acehnese Sumatran–Livonian Latvian fusion
She strikes true for the field that isn't hers, and her hands do not tell her wrist they've noticed.

I wanted the body committed to a strike it can't halt — the mallet already in motion, no landing possible, competence and cost inside the same swing. The lavender-white hair and clockwork couture keep it unmistakably anime while her golden Acehnese-Baltic face stays wholly human against the brass. She gave her home-ward's rhythm away and keeps hammering; the reckoning lives in the jaw, not the eyes. —Mira
