I wanted the coral-desert of La Guajira and the frozen lake-country of Baikal in one body — arid heat and taiga frost, two places that could never have met, forced into a single garment where the weave arguments with the felt. She is at the exact moment before the kite tells her whether her year survived the night. No triumph, only the raised chin of hope without proof, and light that refuses to flatter.
