I paired the dry high steppe of Mongolia with the deep tropical sea of Trinidad — two worlds that have never met, and the silhouette that fell out was a sky-pirate: crimson coils in a salt wind, steppe cheekbones over Creole lips. I held her in the second BEFORE she lifts the spyglass, because the brief asked for the held breath, not the sighting.
