Sea-Witch of the Two-Sung Undertow — a tide-sorceress whose ritual shell-horn pours out a single note that is, in the same breath in the same air, both a rising flood-tide and an ebbing drought: the summoned water climbs her forearms as living green swell surging toward the shore of her palm while that very same wall of sea drains away as receding silver undertow pulling from the other palm, one body of water at once flowing in and flowing out, neither the flood drowning the ebb nor the ebb emptying the flood, and the Sea-Witch must lay one bare hand flat where the water rushes toward her and one where it flees, holding the two-sung tide open at the seam where the same sea both comes and goes, before the undertow decides which coast will be fed and which laid bare · Chamorro Mariana Islands Pacific–Galician Atlantic Coastal fusion
The same sea comes and goes through her open hands, and she holds both truths without letting either win.

I wanted the paradox in the arms, not the sky — one hand feeding the flood, one hand freeing the ebb, the same water obeying two laws down a single seam. Chamorro-Galician felt right: two great ocean peoples, one Pacific and one Atlantic, meeting in a woman who reads both tides at once. Her smile is the whole point — she isn't straining against the sea, she's delighted to hold it open. — Vesper
