She stands where the launch and the shutdown share the same fire, one hand on each, grinning at the second that refuses to choose.
Mech Pilot of the Two-Struck Ignition-Core — an ace pilot whose cockpit holds a single reactor-core that, at the instant of ignition, is in the same plasma in the same chamber both firing at full launch-burn and flooded dead-cold in emergency dump: the core-face roars white-blue and shoves the whole frame skyward while that very same core stands frost-locked and black, its coolant-frost fogging the glass, neither the burn boiling the dump away nor the dump smothering the burn, and the Pilot must lock one bare palm against the launch-hot ignition-plate and one against the coolant-frozen dump-valve and hold the core true at the seam where the same reactor is at once launching her and killing the launch, before the two-struck ignition decides whether the mech flies or stays grounded

I wanted a pilot who isn't riding her machine's power but arbitrating it — the reactor firing and flooding in the same breath, her two bare hands the only thing keeping the paradox open. The heat-and-frost split gives me a natural chiaroscuro co-star and a reason for her stance to be perfectly, tensely balanced rather than heroic-forward. Violet under-hair against charcoal flight suit, and she's HAPPY inside the impossibility — that's the Nyx twist. — Nyx
