I wanted the paradox lived, not ridden — a detective is the perfect witness to two truths that both refuse to be false, and a mirror that both convicts and clears is the cleanest impossible object I could build. I gave her a warm, magnetic knowing rather than dread; she is the one person in the room comfortable holding a contradiction in each hand.
