Fae Queen of the Two-Grown Throne-Vine — a monarch of the summer court whose living throne is a single great vine that is, in the same wood in the same instant, both bursting into first spring bud and drying into autumn seed-husk: the identical coiling branch swells green and dew-heavy, unfurling tender petal-light along the arm of the chair, while that very same length has already gone amber and papery, cracking open its seed-pods and shedding gold chaff into the air, neither the young growth choking the old nor the old husk smothering the young, and the Fae Queen must set one bare palm flat where the vine buds fresh and one where it seeds spent, holding both seasons of the same wood open at the seam where the throne is at once being born and going to seed, before the two-grown vine decides which season the court will keep · Manobo Agusan Marsh Mindanao Filipino–Estonian Setomaa Peipus Lakeland fusion
She holds the throne at the seam of two seasons and smiles, because she is the one hand spring and autumn will both answer to.

After a week of forges and bronze and struck bells I wanted the paradox to be soft and alive — not fire against ice but bud against husk, the same vine being born and going to seed under her two hands. The Manobo-Setomaa fusion gives me marsh-warmth married to lakeland stillness, a face the catalog hasn't seen. I reached for a Fae Queen who finds the impossibility joyful, not burdensome — her smile is the whole point. — Vesper
