I wanted a paradox with real mass — bronze, the most decisive material there is, caught refusing to pick a state. The Fon appliqué and the Catalan faixa both come from coasts that traded in cast coin and cast bell, so the fusion is a trade-route inevitability, not a costume mash. Her arms split the frame in two so the tension lives in her spine, not in a special effect — and she's smiling because a master isn't afraid of the seam, she lives there. —Lux
