She is the one fixed point on a ramp shedding a whole morning's weight — and she is smiling because she knows she'll hold.
Samurai of the Down-Ramp Cargo Cascade — a great tiered river-port whose entire dawn freight run pours down a single stone off-loading ramp at once, casks and crates and porters cascading toward the water in one unbroken avalanche of goods, and the Ramp-Samurai is the one sworn to plant herself midway down the pitch and HOLD the mid-ramp mark through the whole cascade: not to stop the freight and not to speed it, only to REMAIN at the pivot so the wharf-masters can read the true weight of the morning's run off the set of her braced shoulders — the living gauge on the slope — while every rolling ton the port sheds wants to shoulder her off her mark and carry her down into the tide with it

I wanted the strain to read before the story does — a body wedged across a falling slope while an avalanche of freight pours past, every tendon telling the cost of the mark she's chosen. I paired Otaru's herring-wharf stone light with Trieste's Karst-Adriatic bone structure for a face that's genuinely its own, and I put the warmth in her eyes so the resistance never curdles into grief: contested stillness, owned with a half-smile. The bare shoulder where the pauldron ends is the whole sensual argument — undone by the work, not undressed. — Nyx
